Deadline extended
It appears that the information about Elementary Musicfest 2009 did not get out as intended, and there are people just finding out about it now. Because of this, the deadline to pay $100 ($60 for Kindergarteners) for Musicfest will be extended until July 13th. Please let others you know who may be interested in the Musicfest about this change. Thanks!

Musicfest 2009!
Make this a summer to remember by joining with other young musicians in exciting classes, enriching experiences, valuable performance opportunities, fascinating instructors, exhilarating music, and much more. The Elementary Musicfest is geared toward young musicians who will be entering kindergarten to fifth grade this coming school year, regardless of instrument or ability level. Emphasis will be placed on musical experiences ranging from singing games to theory and composition.
Elementary Musicfest will take place the week of July 20th, in the Mesa State College Performing Arts Center. Music Camp will begin at 8am with ten minutes of folk dancing followed by some whole group singing activities. The students will then be divided into age level groupings and attend two forty minute classes full of engaging musical activities. Back by popular demand, students then congregate to "Meet the Composer" and take a snack break. Next, the students go to two more forty minute activity packed classes, followed by a daily recital which parents are welcome to attend at 11:40am. Musicfest ends each day at noon.
Kindergartners have a modified schedule starting each morning at 8:00am. They begin with everyone else, then participate in vocal exploration, hands on instrument activities, movement, and then creative (age appropriate) composition. They finish with a snack and "Meet the Composer" which will end at 10:20am. They are welcome to attend the recitals at 11:40, provided they are accompanied by a parent.
The week will end with a final concert in the Mesa State College Recital Hall, at 6:30pm on Friday. This concert will feature the Elementary Musicfest participants performing a sampling of what they learned throughout the week.
Classes Offered
Folk Dancing
Through traditional folk tunes and dance steps, students will learn to enjoy music through movement.
Vocal Explorations
Students will learn about using their voices as instuments to make music. With the use of activities that tap into the students' imagination, they will come away from this class with a heightened awareness of pitch, the use of their vocal mechanism, proper singing technique, and music reading skills using solfegio.
Orff Ensembles
With the learn through hands-on play approach, students will explore accompaniment patterns layered to create a greater ensemble sound.
Music Theory Made Elementary
In order to nurture the musician in Elementary age students, this class focuses on the theory basics clothed in fun learning activities.
Movement to Music/Eurhythmics
Young musicicians naturally express themselves through movement. This class will be filled with movement activities that will provide a foundation for a strengthened knowledge base as well as a greater vocabulary of musical expressions.
Composition
Students will experiment with different instrument sounds as well as musical form and notation to create compositions of their own.
Hand Chimes
Geared especially toward beginning musicians, students will be thrilled to find out just how quickly they can learn to make beautiful music using hand chimes.
Blast Off with Piano!
This week long beginning piano class is described very well with its name. Using electric keyboards, students will get an exciting jump start into the joy of making music on the piano.
Recorder Ensembles
More advanced students will have the opportunity to experience the harmonies, and layered patterns that make ensemble music performance so rewarding.
